The Trump administration's aggressive immigration enforcement is delivering a crushing blow to America's hospitality industry, with nearly 100,000 workers losing their jobs in just one year as fear spreads through a workforce that depends heavily on immigrant labor.

According to a new report from Unite Here, the nation's largest hospitality workers' union representing 300,000 employees, the number of employed hospitality workers plummeted by 98,000 from December 2024 to December 2025. The union directly attributes this dramatic decline to the administration's intensified ICE crackdown, which is creating a chilling effect across hotels, restaurants, airports, and theme parks nationwide.

The impact extends far beyond undocumented workers. Approximately one-third of the hospitality workforce consists of immigrants, including legal residents from Haiti and Venezuela whose status has been thrown into uncertainty by proposed changes to Temporary Protected Status and asylum processes. Even workers who have built lives in America for decades are now living in fear.

"We're not talking about people who have been here six months," explained Isaie Marc, a Haitian immigrant and U.S. citizen with Unite Here Local 737, which represents roughly 18,000 Disney World workers. "There are some people who have been here 10, 18, 20 years, so they've built a life in the United States."

The crisis is particularly acute in tourism-dependent regions like Central Florida, where Trump's mass detention and deportation agenda is creating widespread fear among workers at iconic destinations including Walt Disney World. This climate of uncertainty is not only devastating individual families but also threatening the operational capacity of businesses that rely on immigrant labor to function.

The hospitality sector's struggles represent a broader economic contradiction within the Trump administration's immigration policies. While promising to strengthen the economy, the aggressive enforcement is instead dismantling industries that have long depended on immigrant workers to fill essential roles that keep America's tourism and service sectors running.

As ICE operations intensify and immigration policies tighten, the hospitality industry faces an increasingly dire labor shortage that threatens to undermine one of America's most significant economic sectors.
